Brief

Almacantar tasked us with delivering a world-class cinema for the residents of The Bryanston, a landmark development overlooking Hyde Park.

The brief called for a solution that would feel truly exceptional: a room that matched the building’s architectural calibre while offering performance expected of a private high-end screening environment.

The cinema needed to serve a diverse group of residents, yet maintain the intimacy, precision, and acoustic integrity of a dedicated, purpose-built space. This required a design that balanced comfort with technical depth, discreetly integrating advanced acoustic treatment, controlled lighting, and reference-level audio and video systems within a refined interior.

Every aspect of the room was engineered with intention: sightlines, seating geometry, sound isolation, speaker placement, ventilation, and control were all developed to ensure the experience remains consistent, reliable, and effortlessly enjoyable for every resident who uses it.

The result is a cinema that feels both luxurious and deeply considered — a performance-driven space that reflects the quality of The Bryanston and provides its residents with a truly immersive communal amenity.

Solution

To deliver a cinema worthy of the Bryanston’s amenity spaces, the system was engineered around a performance-first approach, combining reference audio, precision video, and a fully integrated control ecosystem. Every element was selected to ensure the room performs at the highest level — consistently, reliably, and with the emotional impact expected from a world-class private cinema. The installation was carried out by our senior engineering team, ensuring every component was positioned, wired, and commissioned to the highest professional standard.

Audio

The audio system is built around a full Wisdom Audio architecture, combining their Sage and Insight series loudspeakers to deliver exceptional clarity, dynamics, and spatial accuracy.

A trio of Sage Cinema Line 2 loudspeakers forms the LCR array behind the screen, ensuring dialogue precision and effortless scale. Surround and height channels use a combination of Insight L8i and Sage ICS7a loudspeakers, creating a seamless, enveloping soundfield with accurate localisation across all listening positions.

Low-frequency performance is managed by both in-wall and freestanding subwoofer systems — Insight S90i and SCS-2 — delivering deep, controlled bass that remains articulate even at reference level. Dedicated Wisdom SA-Series amplification ensures each channel operates within its optimal performance envelope.

Processing & Calibration

A StormAudio ISP Elite MKIII 24-channel processor forms the heart of the system, enabling precise decoding, room optimisation, and format flexibility.

The cinema was then calibrated by our in-house calbration engineers, using advanced measurement, alignment, and target mapping techniques to ensure the room meets recognised reference standards and performs consistently across all seating positions.

Video

The visual experience is anchored by JVC’s flagship DLA-NZ900 4K laser projector, chosen for its exceptional contrast performance, colour accuracy, and long-term stability. The image is presented on a 5-metre Screen Research fixed frame screen, providing cinematic scale and excellent uniformity.

To maximise performance, a MadVR Envy Extreme MKII manages real-time tone-mapping, optimisation, and AI-driven enhancement. Content is delivered through a Kaleidescape Strato movie server for true reference playback, with additional flexibility from Apple TV 4K.

The projector was professionally calibrated by specialist video engineers to ensure colour accuracy, contrast performance, and overall image fidelity are maintained to industry reference.

Control & Integration

A fully integrated Crestron control system manages the AV, lighting, acoustic modes, and building interfaces, ensuring the cinema is effortless to use in a shared amenity environment. A combination of TSW-1070 touch panel, TSR-310 handheld remote, and a dedicated iPad provides intuitive, reliable operation for both residents and building staff.

Acoustic Treatment

The acoustic performance of the room is supported by a full acoustic treatment package, engineered to manage reflections, resonance, and low-frequency behaviour. This ensures the system’s performance translates cleanly into the listening environment, delivering clarity, immersion, and tonal accuracy throughout the space.
